Women in leadership positions in credit unions: What’s holding you back?

first_img 3SHARESShareShareSharePrintMailGooglePinterestDiggRedditStumbleuponDeliciousBufferTumblr,Judy Hoberman Men and women sell, manage, recruit and supervise differently.  Judy Hoberman, creator of “Selling in a Skirt”, shares essential insights about gender differences and how to embrace and use those … Web: www.sellinginaskirt.com Details Recently I was a speaker at an amazing event. The event was in conjunction with a fund-raiser to bring awareness to two major challenges . . . cancers that affect women and domestic violence. As stories were being shared, I realized that any of these issues could have been enough to stop someone in their tracks and not be able to move forward . . . what can do that? Is it the experience itself or is it fear of being trapped in the past?So many times, we hang on to our past and we even let it define us. Other times we use our past as a reason we limit ourselves so that we can’t reach our dreams and goals. In order to reach your dreams or goals, you need to push through your limits and past your comfort zone. We would all love to have that magic bullet to make things happen quickly as we all look for instant gratification. But unfortunately, there are no shortcuts . . . that is, unless you want to be mediocre at best and I know, that isn’t the case.  When you hit that wall of limiting beliefs . . . push a little harder and I would bet you will push right through and you will start to think why was it so challenging in the first place? What do you think are the most common challenges that we face that hold us back?1. That inner chatter that for some reason we listen to and we continue to tell ourselves. It’s that tape we play over and over again and start to believe . . . “I can’t, I don’t have and I’m not enough.” We can probably go back into our past and remember where they came from.  This is a perfect example of our past being our barrier. As we repeat this over and over again, we are reinforcing our limitations and our dreams, and our goals are being pushed further and further away. What are we afraid of?Start listening to what you are saying . . . even if it isn’t out loud and try to change your vocabulary which will in turn change your mindset. Time to eliminate the negativity that you are creating for yourself. Are you sharing that negativity with your team? Did you ever wonder if everyone has that internal critic that is screaming at them?2. Are you a victim of your circumstances? Is what is going on in your life the reason you can’t achieve your goals? While you may not have the same advantages as someone else, you still can find opportunities. If you are in a job that has no future, you can find another one. If you are surrounded with people with no ambition . . . find other friends. If you think that it is your parents’ fault that you are the way you are . . . change it.Time for a reality check. Any reason that you can throw out that you aren’t as successful as you want to be or that you haven’t reached your goals . . . guess what, it isn’t your job, your parents, your friends, your location or any other variety of reasons . . . it’s you and what you are allowing to take over your life. I’m sure you’ve heard stories about how someone reached a level they never thought possible and their background and circumstances would have some using it as a potential vampire . . . instead, they chose to take what they have and turn it into what they want.3. Your past. And guess what? Everyone has one. What are you going to take from your past and make your future amazing . . . or how about the flip side and take your past and make it the reason why your future isn’t . . . it’s your choice. You can’t eliminate your past but you also can’t let it control you or turn you into a victim.4. Finally, I know this will sound crazy but . . . do you really care what others think of you? I know being popular is important but when you worry more about what others are saying, you might be cutting your chances of succeeding down. Are you surrounding yourself with those that make you feel guilty or those that would rather see you fail rather than succeed or are you constantly seeking approval?  The truth is you will never make everyone happy and that will lead to your own level of disappointment. You have to decide if you are with people that lift you up and help you reach your goals rather than those that have their thumb on you and are giving you advice that will keep you down.Stop feeling guilty and stop allowing fear to control your life. Remember why you are doing what you are doing. Of course you should have those around you that can share their experience and expertise but not worrying about what others think is something we can all work on to let our past become more of our path to our potential than our road-block.So, the question is are you stuck between your past and an amazing future? Maybe it’s time to just move on. When you are stuck in the past, it keeps you from unknown and unseen opportunities. Whether it’s a self-limiting belief or a bad relationship, you will find there are circumstances that will keep those walls up rather than being open to opportunities. When you can identify what those struggles are and work on releasing them, both you and your business will have a fighting chance.  Maybe it’s time to bring in an objective 3rd person to listen. Is this something that you can do today? Maybe not but you’ll know when you are ready.  Sometimes what’s holding you back is a situation that you need to work through.  Other times it could be a person and that might mean a conversation . . . maybe it’s as simple as stop holding a grudge. Whatever the circumstance, you will take care of it, at the right moment . . . just don’t wait forever. Here’s the reality . . . your past is your past and whether or not you want to hold onto it is also your choice. You might be ready to release it and something or someone is making it too difficult to happen. It’s your choice. As in business, the fact is, if you don’t try, the answer will always be no. And . . . the best-case scenario is that you make the effort and it all works out. We all know that things happen exactly as they are supposed to so make it happen. When you put your past in the past, you will be ready for the present and onto the future. You’ve probably learned from your past and will take those lessons into the future. Then when someone asks you “if you know then what you know now” you can let them know that you’ve learned your lessons and your blessings and that is what makes you . . . you.Remember your past doesn’t define you . . . it prepares you. Just because your past didn’t turn out like the way you wanted it to, doesn’t mean your future can’t be better than you’ve ever imagined. Your greatest talent is so much more powerful than your biggest fear.last_img read more

Republicans pile onto conspiracy theories about vote counting

first_imgHe has help.Rep. Paul Gosar bragged about having joined Trump supporters outside the site where ballots were being counted in Maricopa County. The aggressive group was apparently motivated by a conspiracy theory about votes being changed rather than counted, and it included far-right anti-immigration activists and threatened reporters. – Advertisement – That’s the substance of Republican angst: Votes are being counted, and those votes may not go the way Republicans want them to go. That must be the result of conspiracy and cheating and outright theft by Democrats, they claim, with a big dose of rage that the votes of Black people are being counted at all.Meanwhile, Joe Biden’s message is simple: “Every vote must be counted.” Rep. Kevin Brady repeated Trump’s lies about vote counting being conducted in secrecy, cloaking a lie as a call for transparency. That transparency already exists, however—though law enforcement in more than one city has had to defend vote-counting sites against mobs of Trump supporters trying to get inside to disrupt counting. Rep. Jim Banks tied together a Peter Strzok conspiracy theory with a reference to “the shady ballot counting happening in WI, MI and PA.” You know, the ballot counting. Which Republicans insist must be shady, because it’s not going their way. The majority of the Pennsylvania state House tweeted that “The failure of Pennsylvania to have firm election results on Election Day is an openly partisan failure by Democrats from the Wolf administration to the PA Supreme Court.” Except the failure of Pennsylvania to have firm election results on Election Day is a direct result of Republican legislators blocking election officials from counting or even processing mail ballots before Election Day!Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich enthusiastically jumped on board with claims that “Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania are all being stolen by Democrats.” Again, because votes are being counted.- Advertisement –center_img – Advertisement –last_img read more

first_imgTopics : During an inspection tour to the city this week, Vice Premier Sun Chunlan urged local authorities to increase oversight of imported goods, as well as of any people leaving Dalian, state news agency Xinhua reported Tuesday.”The task of prevention and control is still arduous, and there should be no slacking,” Sun was quoted as saying.Following a June outbreak in Beijing which infected more than 300 people, Dalian authorities are using a similar targeted approach to implement virus control measures on different districts of the city based on their risk levels. In total, 84,060 people have been infected with coronavirus in China, of whom 482 remain hospitalized. There have been 4,634 related deaths, according to an official count. The last time it recorded so many new cases was April 13, when 108 infections were confirmed — mostly imported.Authorities have concentrated their attention on a cluster which emerged last week at a food processing plant in Dalian, in the northeastern province of Liaoning. Officials said workers there handled contaminated packaging of imported seafood.Fifty-two cases have been confirmed in the major port city in the past week, of which 30 involved employees at the factory.More than three million people have been tested in Dalian and Zhao Lian, head of the city’s health commission, said Wednesday that enclosed public venues — including libraries, gyms, bars, museums, restaurants and spas — would be closed.center_img China reported 101 new coronavirus cases Wednesday, its highest single-day figure in three months, as gyms, bars and museums closed in infection hotspots.Of the new cases, 98 were domestic infections, mostly in the northwestern region of Xinjiang, where a growing cluster first discovered earlier this month has prompted mass testing and restrictions.China — where the global outbreak first emerged — had largely brought domestic transmission under control through targeted lockdowns, travel restrictions and testing. But sporadic regional outbreaks have illustrated the difficulty of keeping the virus at bay.last_img read more

Completing this transaction provides the crude tanker market with a global player of substantial size,” Paddy Rodgers, CEO of Euronav, said. The merger creates an independent large crude tanker operator with a fleet of 76 operating crude tankers, consisting of 43 VLCCs, 27 Suezmaxes, 2 ULCC, two Panamax tankers and two FSOs under joint venture – representing over 19.4 million dwt in aggregate. The merged entity has balance sheet assets of over USD 4 billion, an estimated pro-forma market capitalization of USD 2 billion based on Euronav’s closing price of USD 9.10 per share on June 11, 2018, and marked-to-market leverage of less than 50%.Additionally, the operator has a liquidity position estimated at more than USD 800 million, including cash on hand and undrawn amounts available under existing credit facilities; tangible economies of scale via pooling arrangements, procurement opportunities, reduced overhead and enhanced access to capital; and a well-capitalised, highly liquid company for investors wanting to participate in the tanker market.Furthermore, increase of the scale of the Tankers International Pool (a spot market-oriented tanker pool) to 65 VLCCs will allow the company to continue to provide the lowest commercial fees as a percentage of revenue in the sector, according to Euronav.last_img read more
