Udayanga rejects claims says he is in Ukraine

Sri Lanka’s former Ambassador to Russia, Udayanga Weeratunga, has denied the  allegations against him and claims he is in Ukraine.Weeratunga, who has been accused by the Government of giving arms to rebels in Ukraine, has told the BBC Sinhala service that the allegations are false and that he is not under any investigation in Ukraine. Weeratunga has been accused of supplying arms to Ukrainian rebels while he was the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia. The Foreign Ministry had said that Sri Lanka was ready to send a team to Ukraine to assist in the investigations over the alleged arms deal. Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mahishini Colonne said recently that the Government was however still awaiting a response from Ukraine on the assistance it would require with regards to the investigation.The Government also said that Weeratunga’s diplomatic passport has been cancelled.
