Mourinho casts doubts over Chelsea’s January transfer window activity

first_imgChelsea boss Jose Mourinho has admitted he hopes the Blues don’t have to dip into the January transfer window, but is prepared to do so.The Portuguese manager is concerned over the long-term fitness of star striker Diego Costa, who will miss Tuesday’s Champions League tie against Maribor at Stamford Bridge.Costa has been persistently plagued by a hamstring problem this season while Mourinho also has fitness worries over Germany World Cup winner Andre Schurrle and midfielder John Mikel Obi.Mourinho has insisted he is not focused on the next transfer window but he may be forced to re-enter the market to maintain Chelsea’s strength and depth.Speaking ahead of the Blues’ midweek European fixture, he said: “We do not think about that (the window), that is a long time to go with November and December. Hopefully we don’t need it and don’t have problems. The window is there for people in trouble, for whatever reason, to cope with a difficult moment. Hopefully we do not need it.” Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho 1last_img
