first_imgHarold RaneyHarold Raney, 89, of Winfield, died peacefully Friday, December 25, 2015 at the Kansas Veteran’s Home in Winfield, surrounded by his family.Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at the Shelley Family Funeral Home in Wellington. Visitation will be held Monday, from 9 a.m., until 6 p.m., no family night is scheduled.Interment will be at the Veterans Cemetery in Winfield. A memorial has been established with the Bryce Day Memorial Fund and may be left with the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Wellington. For further information please visit www.shelleyfamilyfh.com.Harold L. Raney was born in Kansas City on January 15, 1926 and grew up on a farming Stilwell. He was a 1943 graduate of Stilwell High School and joined the Navy that same year. Harold served on the destroyer U.S.S. Howorth stationed in the Pacific in World War II.He continued a relationship with his Navy friends the remainder of his life and attended many of his ship’s reunions held around the country. Harold was a former resident of Wellington, KS and retired from the maintenance department at St. Luke’s Hospital in 1988. He was a member of the Wellington Presbyterian Church. Harold loved to play golf, fish and watch sporting events.Harold is survived by his wife of 66 years, Shirley (Kolb) and daughters Cheryl Hinshaw of Wichita, KS and Judy Raney of Lawrence, granddaughter Julie Thatcher and husband John and grandson Greg Hinshaw and wife Kelsi. He leaves behind his great grandchildren; Creighton, Drake and Mercer Thatcher and Banks and Addison Hinshaw.Harold is preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law Richard Hinshaw.last_img
